Most of the apartments on Oahu will be well over 1000 in rent. I suggest Iroquois Point. (located in Ewa Beach, a very nice town) There are very spacious houses, over 1000 sq. feet and the cheapest rent each month is around 1200 dollars. You can rent either a 2,3, or 4 bedroom home. I used to live here when it was a military community, but since then, it is not military anymore. It has a beach, a mini mart, cafe, tennis courts, basketball courts, all that stuff. You could even live in a townhouse there if you wanted. But these are probably the cheapest priced houses you will find. Here is the website you will be able to see the floorplans and also how much the montly rent is (just click on floorplans it will tell you the rent for each size house)

$2000 a month? thats not even enough to pay for rent. Unless yo want to live in the GHETTO...

interisland travel is about $40 one way by flight or the Superferry boat to carry you and vechicle about $90 for both.

Rent is expensive in town...Honolulu...condos studio range from $2000 and up....unless in ghetto area....where you can get a studio for $1000...

best of luck to ya
I only know about Oahu. Two thousand a month - boy that isn't a lot to live on. You'll be looking at a studio, I would imagine. As far as ghettos go, I think with the exception of a few public housing projects (Mayor Wright housing, KPT, etc), we really don't have any ghettos. Not in the sense of ghettos that I know on the mainland anyways. But there are better %26amp; not so great parts of town. At the price range you can afford on 2K a month, I think you should concentrate on areas like Moiliili, parts of Makiki, Pearl City, and as someone already suggested places closer to the center of the island like Mililani or Wahiawa. The main supermarkets are Safeway, Times, Foodland, %26amp; Star. They are all pretty similar in terms of quality %26amp; price. In general, things are more expensive on the outer islands %26amp; there will be fewer employment opportunities, so I would focus on Oahu. I do know a few people who commute to work from other islands, but it isn't the easiest thing to do. Fares are mostly around $39 each way, but sometimes you can get flights for less. Mostly they rent a room from a friend %26amp; stay here 3 or 4 days a week %26amp; then fly home to other islands for the other 3 or 4 days. They either own a car on each island or bus it from the airport. I don't see how you could manage that on 2 K a month.

I would suggest looking at the online Honolulu Advertiser's rental %26amp; employment sections to see if you will be able to make a go of it here.

I wish you well!
If you got $2000 a month and you dont party or do much you'll be good. Housing expenses is going to eat up $800-$1000 of that. Do you have a car? Oahu has the best public trans. The other islands however are a lot quieter. On Oahu Waikiki is the busiest area, but outside of there you got maikiki, kapahulu, kailua, millani depending on where you wanna live. Check out craigslist.org for housing prices
Hahahahaa... there are no ghettos in Hawaii??!! Yea right! What island do you live on, Ni'ihau?HAAAHAAHAA
