What's the best advice you ever been given?

my grandma said once, boy, if you don't stop wearing just those boxers that thing is going to hang down to your knees, so i kept wearing boxers, hey , whats the down side i said ?What's the best advice you ever been given?
to make my own decisions and not listen to other people's adviceWhat's the best advice you ever been given?
diet?? OMG just eat already!! ur not gettin younger..!
To learn to tell the difference between things in life that I can control and that I can't - and to take control of what I can, and learn to let go of what's beyond my control.
When I was in ove with a christian non-vegetarian girl my father advised me politely and explained me the pros an corns with marrying a spouse of your choice but from different culture and religious background and the sacrifices you and your other family members need to make for keeping the inssitution of marriage alive after solemnisation of marriage. And that was excellent. And in a second thought, both of us realised the merits of his advice and decided to stay apart and marry the choice of our parents.
i don't really remember at the moment but i can tell you the best peace of advice I've given to someone else. everyone is weird in their own special way - Robin M
What a great question. There are a few things I heard that really helped me along the way:

Don't take things so personally. If people get mad at you - how they treat you is about who they are - and not about you. i.e. you could have the same circumstances and two different people (because of who they are) would respond completely differently. One could be a jerk, and the other could have compassion. What matters most is that we forgive ourselves and take care of ourselves.

Life is not fair. When bad stuff happens to you, remember it happens to everyone at some point or another, and some have it way worse. This isn't to diminish your feelings, but rather help you put it in perspective in the bigger picture. Life is hard, but it is overcoming those hardships that brings us the joy as well. It's part of the mystery of life.

This too shall pass. Life is change. If you're going through a tough time, it will pass - just as if things are going great, that will change too. This idea that there is security in life is an illusion. Become friends with uncertainty and stay in the moment and you'll get more out of life.

If you've got one foot in the future and one foot in the past - then you're pissing on the present.

We don't have power over things that happen in our lives, but we always have the power to change our response to these situations. Learn to accept this - and exercise your own power to change yourself and you can handle anything.

Forgiving someone helps us to stop the ties we have of hatred - that hurt US and not them. Forgiveness doesn't mean we say what happened was ok, it just means that we accept what happened, but we don't forget. It does not mean we become friends with them again, or allow the same thing to happen. What it does mean, is that we learn from the experience and let go of the resentment (see what happened as a teaching) and move on. Resentment only hurts us.

Those are some of the major ones that have helped me in my life - they have been priceless in helping me get through ALL kinds of challenges that life presents.
Not 2 indulge in anything 2 excessively.
don't drink and drive

';Don't take yourself seriously';
The best advice I was ever given I didn't take... because I didn't have a clue.

I had a guy bust into my office... annoucing ';Microsoft is going public... buy as many shares as you can';...

When he exited, I looked at my co-workers and said... ';what is MICROSOFT... '; and what does ';GOING PUBLIC'; mean? We shrugged and continued our card game.

This is a true story.
Read anything, just read.

I kinda retract that as my parents didn't say it and as we know, they are priceless.
Be yourself.
Not to give free advice. :)
That friendship is like a bar of soap.

If you hold onto it too tightly it will slip right out of your hand. But handle it with care and it will remain in your hands.
Don't place conditions on happiness. Never say, ';I would be happy IF....';

My 10th grade psychology teacher taught me that.
life is a cycle.

If you want things to change you have to break the cycle.
not to trust god to do all the work for me
oooo oooooo good question! :D

ummm....from a woman, who had raised 5 productive children...

before the birth of my first child...23 years ago...

3 things about parenting...{that may save your sanity}lol

first....never argue with a child. the instant you engage in that argument you have lost, you are the parent, there is no argument.{will they try, yes, but you don't have to respond}

second....never SAY, my child will NEVER do that!...PRAY your child won't, because as soon as you say the won't, they will, or have.

and the most important....

we are not raising our children to keep them...we are raising them to be independent, functioning citizens...{if you keep this in mind, from birth through...letting go is much easier....esp. when you know you have done your job}

why is this the best advice for me...its work, proven true in my life.

raising 7 kids, 3 have left the nest successfully :D

thanks for reminding what great advice this was in my life...

i really need to thank her.
Apply concepts according to the situations
that Jesus is the way to go. :)
You have to love yourself before anyone will love you.
Don't grab a skunk from the wrong end! - practice.
';Do not be bitter. Learn to forgive and to love again. You will actually be doing yourself a favor, if you do.';
Dont get married ......
