What is the best piece of advice your father has given you?

Material possessions are one thing, but I believe the best thing anybody can give another person is fond memories and good advice coming from their own life experiences. My father has given me great advice pretty much every day I've been alive, but the one piece that sticks with me is:

';Make your life how you want it to be.';

What advice do you remember best from your father (or mother)?What is the best piece of advice your father has given you?
You won't lose the shirt off your back if you roll up your sleevesWhat is the best piece of advice your father has given you?
to be tough and to stand up for myself.

He never actually said those words, just leads by example.
';Never be anyone's victim. Walk around all day like you're ready to slap the sh_t out of somebody and no one will screw with you.';

Words to live by.
he said dont ever let no man ever put his hands on me
BE NICE TO ONE ANOTHER.

....EXACT QUOTE
';You learn more by listening than by talking.';

And to my suprise, it really works.
They tell me to worry only about making myself happy !
He showed me where the brake cables are on a car and told me where he hides his will...

One of these days, I'm going to take his word for it...
DUCK!!!, The last advise he ever gave me.
1. You can be anything you want to be.

2. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.
My dad says:';if you are down to your last dime, don't pay a bill. Go get an Ice Cream';
always keep enough money hidden away just for your own independence, once he hits you the first time, you allowe it, more will follow, so get away
(dad) Hold your head up high sweetie, the only one better than any one on earth has you in His heart!
don't eat red meat in a restaurant that is open 24 hours a day.

never hang inside a casino without any money.

if you are in a gun fight shot first.
My father has been dead for a real long time, but I remember when I was 10, my friend got hit and killed by a car while we were playing hide and seek. I was so scared to go to sleep that night, because I was afraid I was going to die as well... My father told me, '; You won't die, God only takes one person a day';. I felt better and went to sleep.
thru the tough teen years when fighting with my mom, my dad said ';your friends will come and go but never forget your mom is always going to be your mom, she's not going to walk away'; and I realized that was the truth ... and we became friends and I learned to appreciate family more for that reason.
From mom: ';They're just men, baby girl. Don't ever let one of them mistreat you. And if one *does* hit you, remember...he HAS to sleep sometime.';
If you speed into the intersection when the light turns yellow you won't have to wait...
In 1902, my dad quoted '; Whatever man had done, man may do';!!!.

)-
';see a doctor, get it cleared up';
Dad always told me to give a man a fair days work for a fair days pay and I remember it all the time at work.
My father's advice was always be true to your word.
